Just installed kdenlive (apt-get install kdenlive) and I put in a clip that definitely has sound, previewed it with the play button and there's no sound. I then watch the file and yeah the sound is there. I render the clip and the sound is there too. It also shows the sound waves when I split the video and audio. I'll also mention that the sound isn't muted on the track or by the player.
